What is the difference between Coat & Protect and full Rust Check?
Coat & Protect is an oil-based undercoat applied to the exposed undercarriage, covering frame rails, crossmembers, suspension, and floor panels. Full Rust Check adds the penetrating drip formula that enters every body cavity through small access holes or factory drainage points, treating hidden areas inside doors, rocker panels, and pillars. Full Rust Check covers more areas; Coat & Protect alone is best suited as a supplemental treatment or for vehicles that have already been treated with full Rust Check.
Is oil-based undercoating better than rubberized?
Yes. Rubberized undercoating sprays dry and harden over time. As they cure, they develop micro-cracks that allow moisture to get trapped between the rubber layer and the metal, accelerating corrosion rather than preventing it. Oil-based Coat & Protect never dries, maintains continuous contact with metal, and self-heals minor damage. It is the only type we offer.
Will undercoating drip on my driveway?
Coat & Protect is dripless. It is a thick oil that stays where it is applied. You can park normally immediately after the service. The penetrating drip formula used in full Rust Check does drip for 1-3 days after application through the small holes drilled into body cavities.
Can I get undercoating without the full Rust Check?
Yes. Coat & Protect is available as a standalone undercoat service starting at $80 for cars. It treats the exposed undercarriage surfaces without the body cavity penetrating drip component. Many customers who have already done full Rust Check get a standalone undercoat top-up between annual treatments.
When is the best time to get undercoating?
Fall, September through November, before the first heavy road salt application of the season. This ensures the undercarriage is treated before salt exposure begins. We offer undercoating year-round, and even a mid-winter application provides protection for the rest of the season.
