Rust Check
Ultimate Detail & Rust Check is Bowmanville's trusted licensed Rust Check dealer for rust proofing, undercoating, and professional two-step rust protection from our shop at 161 Baseline Rd E. We have been protecting Bowmanville vehicles since 2009.
Bowmanville and the surrounding Clarington area see aggressive winter road treatment, with heavy salt application on both municipal streets and the 401 corridor. This makes annual rust protection a necessity, not a luxury. Our two-step Rust Check process combines a penetrating drip formula that reaches hidden joints and seams with a dripless Coat & Protect undercoat that shields exposed surfaces. Every application includes the premium dripless undercoat at no extra charge.

Why Bowmanville Vehicles Need Rust Check
Clarington runs heavy salt and brine on every municipal road from late November through March. The 401 corridor sees even heavier treatment. Salt finds its way into every cavity a vehicle has: door bottoms, rocker panels, frame rails, suspension components, wheel wells, and floor pans. Modern factory rust protection is better than it used to be, but it does not reach the hidden cavities where corrosion actually starts. Our two-step Rust Check is built specifically for what Bowmanville winters do to vehicles.
Two-Step Protection, Free Undercoat Included
Every Rust Check application at our shop is two services in one. The penetrating drip formula gets sprayed into every body cavity through factory drains and small access holes we drill in doors and rocker panels. It creeps into seams, joints, and hidden pockets the way water and salt do, displacing existing moisture and leaving a thin oil film behind. Then we apply our Coat & Protect dripless undercoat to the exposed undercarriage. That second step is included free with every full Rust Check, which is not the industry norm. Other shops charge separately for undercoat. We bundle it because both layers belong on every vehicle.
Annual Application Builds Up Protection
Rust Check is not a one-time treatment. Each application adds to the previous year's layer, so vehicles that come in every fall develop a thicker, more resilient protective film over time. Skipping a year thins out the buildup. Most of our long-term customers from Bowmanville and the surrounding area book the same week every fall, before the first heavy salt application of the season. Our calendar fills up September through November and we recommend booking ahead.
Why Dripless Undercoat Matters
Rubberized undercoatings are common at dealerships and quick-service shops because they look clean and uniform when first applied. The problem is they crack in Canadian temperature extremes and trap moisture against the metal underneath, which can accelerate corrosion instead of preventing it. Our oil-based Coat & Protect undercoat never fully dries, stays in continuous contact with the metal, and self-heals minor damage. It will not crack, peel, or chip. We do not offer rubberized undercoating because we have spent fifteen years watching what it does to vehicles in Ontario.
How It Works
- Pre-inspection and access points: We inspect the vehicle for existing rust, blocked drain holes, and any spots that need extra attention. Drain holes get cleared. Small access holes get drilled in doors and rocker panels where needed and plugged with rubber grommets after.
- Penetrating drip application: The Rust Check oil gets sprayed into every body cavity, seam, joint, and hidden pocket. It creeps the way water does, reaching everywhere salt and moisture would otherwise reach. Expect light dripping for one to three days after the application.
- Coat & Protect undercoat: Our dripless oil-based undercoat goes onto the exposed undercarriage: frame rails, crossmembers, suspension components, fuel and brake lines, and floor pans. Stays wet, never cracks, included free with every Rust Check.
- Final check and grommet plugging: Every drilled access hole gets plugged with a rubber grommet. We re-use these holes during your annual visit, so they only need to be drilled once. Vehicle is wiped down and ready to drive.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When should I get Rust Check in Bowmanville?
- Fall is the right window. September through November, before the first heavy salt application of the season. We offer Rust Check year-round, but fall application gives the protection time to settle in before winter conditions hit. Our calendar fills up that window every year so book ahead if you can.
- How much does Rust Check cost in Bowmanville?
- Two-step Rust Check starts at $140 for cars and scales up by vehicle size. Trucks and larger SUVs run $160 to $200. Standalone dripless undercoat without the penetrating drip is available from $80 for cars. The Coat & Protect undercoat is included free with every full Rust Check, which is not the industry norm.
- Do you drill holes in my vehicle?
- We drill small access holes in doors and rocker panels to reach internal cavities the factory did not provide access to. After application, every hole gets plugged with a rubber grommet that we reuse during annual visits. The holes only need to be drilled once. They are professionally placed and not visible from outside the vehicle.
- Will Rust Check drip on my driveway?
- The penetrating drip formula does drip lightly for one to three days after application. We recommend parking on the street or using a tarp during that window. The Coat & Protect undercoat is dripless and stays where it is applied. If dripping is a concern, our standalone dripless undercoat starting at $80 is an option.
- Is Rust Check worth it on a new vehicle?
- Starting protection early gives the best long-term results. New vehicles come from the factory with some rust protection, but it does not reach every cavity and it wears off over time. Annual Rust Check on a new vehicle prevents corrosion before it can start, preserves resale value, and is significantly cheaper than rust repair down the road.
- Do you serve Newcastle, Orono, or Courtice?
- Yes. We are the licensed Rust Check dealer for the entire Clarington area and surrounding Durham Region. Customers from Newcastle, Orono, Courtice, Hampton, and further out come to our Bowmanville shop on Baseline Rd E. The drive is short and most people make it part of another errand.
