Lighting does a lot of work in a detailing photo, and anybody can shoot the after in better light than the before. We try to shoot both the same way. What a photo genuinely cannot show you is an interior that no longer smells, or an oil film sitting inside a rocker panel where the camera can't reach. Some of the work that matters most is the work you can't photograph.
Depends on what you're starting with. A three-year-old commuter with light swirl marks cleans up dramatically. A fifteen-year-old truck with clear coat already failing has a ceiling, and polishing won't move it past that.
