Toyota Rust Check
Toyota builds vehicles that last, and annual Rust Check (also searched as Toyota rust proofing) helps them last even longer in Ontario's salt-heavy climate. At Ultimate Detail & Rust Check in Bowmanville, we apply the licensed two-step Rust Check process to all Toyota models (sedans, crossovers, trucks, and minivans) with pricing based on actual vehicle size and the Coat & Protect undercoat included at no extra charge.
Despite Toyota's reputation for durability, their vehicles are not immune to the corrosion that Ontario road salt causes. Frame cavities in Tacomas, lower rocker panels on Corollas and Camrys, and the complex body structures of RAV4s and Highlanders all accumulate salt and moisture in hidden areas that wash water never reaches. The Rust Check oil formula penetrates directly into these hidden cavities through factory drainage holes or small access holes if needed, coating every internal surface with a continuous oil film that prevents rust formation. The Coat & Protect undercoat then shields the exposed undercarriage. Together, this two-step process is the best available protection for Toyota vehicles in Ontario.

Why Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner Frame Rust Is Worth Knowing About
There is a well-documented frame-rust history on certain Toyota truck and SUV generations. The 1995-2004 Tacoma frame-rust class action settled by Toyota directly is the most public example, but Tundra and 4Runner frames from similar eras have shown comparable patterns. We are not raising this to disparage Toyota. Toyota stood behind the affected vehicles with frame replacements and buy-backs, which is more than most manufacturers would have done. We raise it because it is the factual reason annual Rust Check on a Tacoma, Tundra, or 4Runner is worth doing whether the truck is new or used. The frame on these vehicles is steel like every other truck frame in the world, and Ontario road salt corrodes steel regardless of the badge. Annual oil-based Rust Check is the most cost-effective frame protection available.
Toyota Galvanized Body Panels and Where They Still Rust
Modern Toyota body panels (Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Sienna sheet metal) are galvanized and hold up well against panel rust on the visible body. Where rust still starts on these vehicles is the cavity side of those galvanized panels: inside doors, inside rocker panels, inside rear quarter panels, around the rear hatch lower lip, and in structural seams that the galvanizing layer does not fully cover. The Step 1 penetrating oil reaches all of these cavities through factory drains. The Step 2 Coat & Protect handles the underbody, including frame extensions on unibody Toyotas like the Highlander and the boxed frame on body-on-frame Toyotas like the Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner.
Why Annual Rust Check on Toyotas Is a Long-Hold Math Problem
Toyotas tend to be 8 to 12 year ownership cycles in Durham Region, and many run well past that. A Camry or RAV4 with 250,000+ km is unremarkable around here. The body is what eventually limits useful life, not the engine or transmission. Annual Rust Check at $140 to $170 per year extends the body life of a Toyota by 3 to 5 years on average, sometimes more. The economics work out clearly at that hold length: a $1,500 to $2,000 lifetime investment in rust protection on a Toyota that would otherwise need rocker panel repair or rear quarter replacement at $1,800 to $3,500 a corner. Toyotas that have been with us annually since 2009 are still in their owners' driveways with clean rockers and clean rear arches.
How It Works
- Hoist inspection by Toyota model: Vehicle on the lift. Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner get a careful frame-rust check on the rails and crossmembers because of the documented history. Camry, Corolla, and RAV4 get the standard cavity-and-underbody walk-through.
- Cavity oil application: Step 1 penetrating oil into door cavities, rocker panels, rear quarters, hatch channels, fender wells, and any factory drain or access hole that reaches a moisture-trap area.
- Underbody Coat & Protect: Step 2 thick oil-based undercoat sprayed across underbody, frame rails (on Tacoma/Tundra/4Runner), subframe (on Camry/Corolla/RAV4), suspension components, brake lines, fuel lines, and exhaust hangers.
- Frame and rear-arch focus: On Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner the frame rails and crossmembers get extra coverage because of the documented frame-rust pattern. On all other Toyotas the rear hatch lip and rear arch get the focus pass.
- Drain check and final: Manufacturer drain holes verified clear. Customer briefed on the 1 to 3 day drip period before keys go back. Park on the street or a tarp the first night.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How much does Toyota Rust Check cost in Bowmanville?
- Corolla, Camry, Yaris: $140. RAV4, Venza, C-HR: $160. Highlander, Sienna: $170. Tacoma: $160 to $190 by cab and configuration. 4Runner: $170. Tundra: $190. Coat & Protect oil-based undercoat is included on every tier. One-time $10 first-drill charge if access holes need to be added.
- Do Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner frames really need annual Rust Check?
- Yes. There is a well-documented frame-rust history on certain Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner generations. Toyota stood behind affected vehicles with replacements and buy-backs, which we respect. The frame on every modern Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner is still steel, and Ontario road salt corrodes steel regardless of the badge. Annual oil-based Rust Check is the most cost-effective frame protection available.
- Will Rust Check void my Toyota factory warranty?
- No. Rust Check is approved by every major manufacturer including Toyota Canada and does not void any factory warranty. Many Toyota dealers offer the same treatment under their own branding through their service departments at higher dealer markup than an independent shop.
- My RAV4 already has galvanized panels. Do I need Rust Check?
- Yes. Toyota galvanized panels hold up well on the visible body but rust still starts on the cavity side: inside doors, inside rocker panels, inside rear quarters, around the rear hatch lower lip. Galvanizing does not cover those internal seams. Step 1 penetrating oil is what reaches them.
- When should I book my Toyota for Rust Check?
- October through November is the high-leverage window before the first salt application. Spring is the second-best window if you missed the fall. Toyotas being kept long-term benefit most from consistent annual treatment because the cumulative oil coverage compounds over years.
- Can I get Rust Check on a used Tacoma I just bought?
- Yes, especially recommended on a used Tacoma. We give an honest hoist inspection at the first appointment to identify any pre-existing frame issues. Light surface rust on the frame slows under annual Rust Check; through-rusted frame sections are a body-shop call, not a Rust Check fix. We tell you straight in the bay before charging for work that will not deliver.
