The building at 161 Baseline Rd E has been a Rust Check shop since 2009, originally run by Fred. Ultimate Detail started separately in 2012 as a mobile detailing side hustle in driveways around Durham, went full-time in 2016, and in 2020 Peter bought the Rust Check shop from Fred and moved the detailing side into the same location. Covid arrived a few weeks later. The business made it through. Peter has been the sole owner since 2023.
We're not a franchise and we're not a chain. One shop, one owner, and the person who quotes your car is usually the person who works on it. That's why we can tell you a job isn't worth doing. Nobody upstairs is counting how many upsells went out the door this week.
It means we're supplied and trained on the Rust Check system rather than buying generic oil by the drum. We run the two-step application: the creeping inhibitor into cavities and seams, then Coat & Protect across the underbody. We've been doing it on Ontario vehicles long enough to know where a 2018 F-150 starts going and where a CR-V does, and those are not the same places.
Daily drivers, mostly. Commuters running the 401 through five months of road salt, work trucks that live outside, minivans with kids and dogs in them, and the occasional car somebody has kept clean for twenty years.
